Dawsons stepping it up for charity
300,000 steps in March challenge
Our Dawsons Sales & Marketing team member, Kelly Israel, is taking on the “300,000 steps in March challenge” to raise money for Maggie’s Centres. We’ve looked that up on an online calculator, and that’s approximately 100 miles, the distance of about four marathons, and we’re tired just thinking about it.
We’re delighted to support Kelly in her endeavours, it’s for a fantastic cause.
Maggie’s offers vital support for anyone with cancer and it’s absolutely free. Anyone can pay one of their centres a visit, or join their online community and it affords them stability and support at a time when their life has been turned upside down with professional support for anything they might need, from side effects caused by treatment to money worries. Family and friends can also visit Maggie’s for support too – it really is an absolutely invaluable resource, with 23 centres all over the UK – including Maggie’s Swansea – and three overseas.
You can visit Kelly’s fundraising page to keep track of how she’s doing and cheer her on, and there’s a donation link on the page, too.
March in March for Refuge Charity
One of Dawsons' directors, Ricky Purdy, is also joining Kelly and Naomi in their charity stomps Marching in March with the Tenancy Deposit Scheme, lacing up his running shoes to raise money and awareness for domestic violence charity, Refuge.
During Covid-19 the charity reported a 700% increase in calls over a single day, and a 950% increase in visitors to their website compared to pre-pandemic. With a reduction in ways charities have been able to fundraise over the past year, and a significant rise in need, it’s more important than ever to be giving back and supporting the work that Refuge do.
You can read the updates and donate to the page here.
Raising awareness for TOFS
Tracheo-oesophageal fistula (TOF) and oesophageal atresia (OA) are rare congenital conditions of the oesophagus (food pipe) and/or trachea (airway) that affect new-born babies. These conditions are nearly always diagnosed at birth and require surgical correction shortly after birth and long-term follow up. Approximately one in 3500 babies is born with one, or both, of these potentially life-threatening conditions.
Marketing Coordinator Naomi’s son, George, was born with this very rare condition and as this week is TOFs awareness week, we wanted to raise awareness of TOFs, too. You can learn more about George and his fundraising efforts on our fundraising page of the Agents Giving website.
